Being Thankful When It Seems Like There's Not Much To Be Thankful For

I know way too many people where their situation is this: They're only thankful for material things. Now there's nothing wrong with being thankful for your new car, or some expensive bag you just bought, but there's so much more.
I was once told that you should also be thankful for the little things, and you should imagine what your life would be like without them. What if you didn't have socks, or your morning coffee. For this reason you should be thankful for everything. Imagine you lived in a world where tomorrow you were only promised the things you were thankful for today. Therefore we need to try and take a step back and be thankful for everything.
Some of my family members and myself have had some catastrophic things happen. Floods, fires, deaths, you name it. It may seem hard to be thankful during times like that. It sucks. But we can't move forward unless we do something to make the situation better. Having confidence in the things that are out of our control are the best thing that we can do. Personally I cannot sulk and be upset in a problem (for long). Yea going through a hard time requires time to process, but at the end of the day being sad about it is not gonna help me heal. This thanksgiving here are some things I am thankful for:
Family (duh)
Friends (duh again)
My new job and being able to feel like I am moving forward in my career
Having a car that takes me where I need to go
Being financially stable and not having to worry about affording simple things
The luxury of being able to remain connected to the people I love
The basic necessities like a bed to sleep in, a roof over my head, and clothes on my back
For my health and modern medicine
This list is actually a lot longer, but these are the things I am comfortable sharing. I hope you all had a happy thanksgiving!
