Starting Strong: Achieving Your 2024 New Year's Resolutions

I have a love-hate relationship with new year's resolutions. Some years I make them, others I don't. This year I have made a bingo sheet with 24 things I ~hope~ I can accomplish (and if I get 5 in a row then it's even more fun).

I think there's a lot of things that I should do, and, let's be honest, I can't say for certain will actually get done. So I won't resolve to run a 5k or declutter my whole life down to a 10-piece closet. But what I can do is celebrate the little wins.

Some of my "resolutions" like read books, journal, or going to orange theory is my attempt to make smaller goals. I want to read more so I think 5 book will be easy and 10 will be a good challenge. I journal occasionally so I think Journaling once a week is pretty attainable. Going to orange: I already started the year off with 75 classes so I think I will be able to hit 100 within the next 2 months.

Staying motivated is easier for me than actually being able to cross off all these squares. I want to look back on this sheet and see that on December 31, 2024 I am proud of the accomplishments I hit. If I made one resolution all year and I was too vague or too specific, either I would complete it and then feel like I cheated myself, or I wouldn't complete it and then start making excuses as to why.

One of my problems with New Year's resolutions is that you can start whenever you want and shouldn't have to feel confined to the calendar. If you still agree with that then you're in luck, it's January 10th and you can start now. Don't shoot for the sun if you're only planning to land on the moon. If you make resolutions and find it hard to accomplish them then just be a little nicer to yourself and make something more attainable. Start out small, celebrate the simple wins, and have a great year!
